Interested in becoming a Catholic?
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
For anybody on the periphery of Catholic life, and wondering if this faith is something to which they are truly called, we usually commence a course – known as RCIA – during the autumn.
This is always a very mixed gathering. Some might come from other churches, others might not know much about Christianity, some may be seeking Baptism, or have been baptised but missed the sacrament of Confirmation. You might simply be interested in revisiting the foundations of your faith. Come and join our group.
We explore topics such as, ‘Who is Jesus?’ We learn about where the Bible came from and how to read it.
What does it mean to be Catholic?
We discuss the Eucharist. How can bread be His body and wine His blood and ‘How can three be one?’
We look at the Sacraments, and ask if there is such a thing as ‘Revelation‘, and what is ’Redemption?‘
We gain understanding about the prophets, saints and the Pope. There are reflections on Mary as the ‘Mother of God’ and the Rosary. Who are the Church Fathers? What were the Great Councils? What happened at the Reformation? We think about prayer, about Christmas, Holy Week and Easter, and other festivals.
These will form the basis of our discussions, all measured against the background of Holy Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC).
The programme will run at the Presbytery on a weekday evening convenient to the group, usually around 7.30pm in the autumn. There is a break for Christmas, resuming in the new year, to lead towards the Rite of Reception, (Baptism) and Confirmation on the Easter weekend.
