Safeguarding
At Our Ladye Star of the Sea, we are fully committed to the safety and well-being of every person in our parish community. We work to ensure that our parish is a place where everyone, especially children, young people, and vulnerable adults are protected, valued, and supported. This is done through promoting a culture of care and vigilance, where everyone takes responsibility for creating a safe and loving environment rooted in our Christian faith.
Our commitment
In line with the guidance from the Archdiocese of Southwark, and the national safeguarding standards established by the Catholic Safeguarding Standards Agency (CSSA), we are committed to:
- Promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.
- Preventing abuse or harm from occurring.
- Responding swiftly, compassionately, and appropriately to any concerns.
- Ensuring that all clergy, staff, and volunteers are safely recruited and trained.
Parish safeguarding representative
Our appointed Parish Safeguarding Representative, Sophie Sadler, helps to maintain a safe environment, ensure policies are followed, and act as a point of contact for any safeguarding concerns. She can be contacted by clicking on her name below or through the Parish Office. She works closely with the Diocesan Safeguarding Office to ensure our Parish meets all safeguarding responsibilities.
Reporting concerns
If you have any safeguarding concerns, or if someone tells you something that worries you, please speak with our Parish Safeguarding Representative or contact the Diocesan Safeguarding Team directly.
If you are concerned about the welfare of a child or adult at risk, believing them to be in immediate danger, do not delay in contacting the police, using 999.
It is the policy of the Catholic Church in England and Wales to report all allegations of abuse to statutory authorities, regardless of whether the abuse occurred recently or in the past, or whether the accused person is living or deceased.
If you are in any role within the Catholic Church in England and Wales, you must refer allegations directly to the safeguarding office for your diocese or religious congregation, or directly to the police.
If you are a member of the public, please refer allegations directly to the police and also to the safeguarding office in your Diocese. You can contact the Archdiocese of Southwark Safeguarding Office on 0207 261 1606 or via email at safeguardingoffice@rcaos.org.uk
